Cabaret is a musical originally entitled Welcome to Berlin. Set in 1929-1930 Berlin on the eve of the Nazis’ rise to power, it focuses on nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and mostly revolves around the English 19-year-old cabaret performer Sally Bowles (Marta Ribera) and her relationship with young American writer, Cliff Bradshaw. A sub-plot involves the doomed romance between German boarding house owner Fräulein Schneider and her elderly suitor Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit vendor. Overseeing the action is the Emcee (Víctor Masan), who presides as master of ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub and serves as a constant metaphor for the current state of society in Weimar Germany throughout the show.

This is the first Chaplin’s exhibition in Spain with 300 photos, films fragments and posters of this comedy actor.

Chaplin became one of the most famous actors, a notable director and musician in the early to mid Hollywood cinema era. He is considered one of the finest mimes and clowns ever caught on film and has greatly influenced performers in this field.

He acted in, directed, scripted, produced, and eventually scored his own films. His working life in entertainment spanned over 65 years, from the Victorian stage and music hall in the United Kingdom as a child performer, almost until his death at the age of eighty-eight.

His principal character was “The Tramp” (known as “Charlot” in France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Turkey, and as “Carlitos” in Brazil). “The Tramp” is a vagrant with the refined manners and dignity of a gentleman. The character wears a tight coat, oversized trousers and shoes, and a derby; carries a bamboo cane; and has a signature toothbrush mustache.

“To help you see what a body really looks like on the inside, this Exhibition uses real human bodies that have been preserved o they do not decay.

Once dissected, the specimen is immersed in acetone, which eliminates all body water. The specimen is then placed in a large bath of silicone, or polymer, and sealed in a vacuum chamber. Under vacuum, acetone leaves the body in the form of gas and the polymer replaces it, entering each cell and body tissue.

A catalyst is then applied to the specimen, hardening it and completing the process.
This method of preservation creates a specimen that will not decay. This offers thousands of unique teaching possibilities for educators at all levels, including medical professionals, archaeologists and other scientists.” (http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com)
