This is Pablo Picasso’s personal collection of art works. Presenting over one hundred works – including some forty paintings by Renoir, Cézanne, Rousseau, Braque, Matisse and others -, this range of art, gathered together over a whole lifetime paints, in its own way, an intimate portrait of Picasso, the man.

« My friends» : is the way in which Picasso referred to his collection. « After all, why shouldn’t one inherit from their friends?», he confessed one day to his dealer, Kahnweiler. « In essence, what is a painter? In Red aside, the Joan Miró Foundation offers a broad overview of Chinese art today, taken from the most comprehensive collection of Chinese contemporary art in the world, formedby Uli and Rita Sigg.

This pioneering collection of museum proportions comprises works in all the main styles and by all the leading artists in China from the Socialist Realist period to the present day.

The Joan Miró Foundation has made a selection from it in order to give wider publicity to an artistic phenomenon that has captured the attention of the art world in recent years.

Exhibition of photographs by Gervasio Sanchez.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of Anti-Personnel Mines.

Gervasio Sanchez set out to pick up the stories of the protagonists of the Mined Lives project he began in 1995. His images show the progress of those affected and the problems they have had to overcome in countries such as Afghanistan, Cambodia and Angola, and those with the most land mines in the world: Bosnia, Mozambique, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

Some of those featured were children when they were first photographed and are now adults. The show will also include portraits of countries such as Colombia, Sudan and Iraq that have been hard-hit by mines in recent years.

Both the exhibition and the planned book was presented in Madrid in December 2007 (exact date of the 10th anniversary of Ottawa) before touring around the main cities in Spain.

Together with “Unas fotos en la ciudad de Sylvia” (Photos in the City of Sylvia) and “En la ciudad de Sylvia” (In the City of Sylvia), “Las mujeres que no conocemos” goes to make up the latest creative project by José Luis Guerín.

Three different formats around a single discourse and theme: the director’s reflection on the female portrait, fugitive time and cinematographic creation. In “Las mujeres que no conocemos”, an expository installation produced for the Spanish Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennial in 2007, Guerin employs the narrative photo-installation, a format midway between film and photography.

The result is a step nearer the meeting between filmmaker and museum, and explores a trail in which the CCCB is a pioneer, film exposé.
